Chapter 3: Impatience

"Patience is A Bitter Plant, But it Bears Sweet Fruit."

"The Plans of the Diligent Lead to Profit as Surely as Haste Leads to Poverty"

Proverbs 21:5

We live in a world where virtue is gone. We want instant results for everything, such as instant coffee, instant messages, instant this, and instant that. Technological advancements have given us the luxury of expecting immediate results. We no longer dedicate time to working hard. We have become a society that values convenience over quality.

The quotes above slipped my memory for a long time until I became frustrated because I was not obtaining the desired results with my blogging, meaning the amount of money I expected to get fast.

I wanted to avoid the bitter taste of patience through hard work and hastily make money fast. I paid the dear price of harvesting nothing except for a few quid here and there.

If Jesus Christ had to pay dearly with His blood to purchase us back for the Kingdom, who are we to look for shortcuts to achieve our goal and please the flesh? This experience has enlightened me on the importance of patience in our fast-paced world.

The Impact of Impatience on Our Work and Ourselves

Decrease Quality

When we are impatient, we rush to complete a task, leaving plenty of mistakes and oversights because of a lack of attention to detail. Choosing speed over accuracy may result in a substandard product requiring revisions or corrections, which can add to the workload and cause more stress.

Incomplete Planning

I mentioned in my About Page that I had no time for planning or research. I was writing to fill out a blog post. By skipping essential steps, misunderstandings arise, or critical elements are overlooked, ultimately leading to rework or mediocre results.  That's what an impatient approach to a task does.

Increased Stress

Being impatient leads to a persistent sense of urgency, even when unnecessary. A high stress level compromises our capacity to think clearly, impairing our ability to be creative, solve problems, and make decisions. That's how impatience affects emotion and drains us.

Lost Opportunities For Learning

When people are patient, they unleash their ability to make deeper thinking and learning possible. If we are too focused on completing tasks quickly, we can miss opportunities to learn new skills or acquire insightful knowledge to help us perform better. That's why I ended up with mediocre work and was always unhappy.

Procrastination

Ironically, procrastination occasionally results from impatience. Impatient people tend to put off tasks that seem too complicated or slow in favour of more straightforward, faster tasks that satisfy them more immediately. Over time, this may lower overall productivity, leading to a long-term stop in blogging.

Impact on Emotions

Trying to make money fast is hard work, particularly when impatience is involved. It leads to frustration, which escalates to stress and anxiety because you feel that you've achieved nothing and wasted time. This creates tension that results in emotional distress.

You Are Irritated

Impatience leads to irritability and anger. Wanting to achieve a task fast to obtain the desired result can create a sense of powerlessness when it does not go according to plan. Because cutting corners does not work.

Difficulty In Controlling Oneself

I remember there were days when I would feel a strong sense of impatience due to an unsatisfactory result. I would go in circles and look for something to appease my impatience: open the fridge, make tea, return to my seat, and browse the internet, to the point of feeling exhausted and more depressed. I dare to thank myself for not breaking furniture, but many impatient people vent their anger on objects.

Isolation

Isolation can result from impatience because it causes you to lose sight of the things around you instead of concentrating on reaching your objective. Impatient people are thought to be more selfish. Although I did not turn selfish, I was focused on achieving my goal and neglected friends and beautiful things around me that needed my attention.

Hasty Decisions

Impatient people may act impulsively to fix or resolve the situation immediately. These rash choices could later cause regret, worsening their emotional health.

Personal Satisfaction Hindered

Impatient people can be constantly frustrated. Their minds are preoccupied with finding ways to cut corners and complete a task immediately. They risk acting impulsively in an attempt to fix or resolve a situation immediately. I have been looking for a quick fix to make money through my blogs for a long time. It never happened.

Patience is one important quality we need to succeed in anything we do.
